Las Posadas – Tuesday, December 16 Wed, 26 Nov 2014 00:03:45 +0000 LAS POSwebJoin Us! Acompáñanos!

Tuesday, December 16 – Martes, 16 de Diciembre

5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Las Posadas is a traditional Hispanic Advent celebration symbolizing the search of Mary and Joseph for a place for Jesus to be born. Participants act out Mary and Joseph asking for shelter by forming a procession and singing a traditional song at the door that represents the “inn.”

For us at Catholic Charities, we observe this ritual knowing full well that, like the innkeepers, we are often more willing to reject the stranger who is unlike us and whom, in our blindness, we do not recognize. In our celebration of Las Posadas we are affirming our intention to be a welcoming presence to the “stranger” in our midst.

RSVP to Corey Almond by December 9 at 719-866-6510 or

In lieu of admission, a $10 donation per person is encouraged. Donations greater than $10 are welcome. More information will be provided at the event.

Your Heart Warms Theirs Fri, 31 Oct 2014 17:15:53 +0000 web

Did you know…chances are, at least one person that you saw this week didn’t have enough money to eat dinner last night.

The fact is seventeen out of a hundred people in Colorado Springs are considered the working poor.  But chances are you will never know their faces.  They live in the shadows some too embarrassed or too proud to ask for help.  And while you may never know their faces the Marian House does.

When you donate a meal or volunteer you are helping bring their need into focus.  The Marian House provides over 600 meals a day, and that is just a small part of the services we provide.  And our clients are from every walk of life.  Because of you, the Marian House can serve these people in need.  And while every situation is different, bringing them out of the shadows and giving them that support is our mission.

We just wanted you to know…That when you give, Your heart warms theirs…

Marian House Partners with Colorado Springs Food Rescue Wed, 29 Oct 2014 19:29:20 +0000 Colorado Springs Food Rescue and the Marian House are on NBC! Marian House has partnered with Colorado Springs Food Rescue (CSFR) since it began in the Fall of 2013.  CSFR was originally founded  by Colorado College students concerned with food waste.  The concept is to redistribute perfectly good food such as day-old bread, blemished produce and unserved food normally thrown away by restaurants, grocers, cafeterias, etc., and deliver it to organizations such as the Marian House Soup Kitchen to be used in meals to feed those in our community who are hungry or food insecure.

Volunteers pick up the food daily and deliver it, usually by bicycle, to various outlets in the city. Recently, the organization has gotten the attention of not only the Colorado Springs local media, but of NBC’s Today Show. You can watch the video clip below:

Sponsor a Day at the Marian House! Thu, 16 Oct 2014 10:59:59 +0000 Thank you to our Marian House Sponsor a Day participants!  Your sponsorship  covers the cost of all meals served on the sponsor day at the soup kitchen.

The Marian House Sponsor a Day Program (MSP) enables businesses, churches, schools, fraternal organizations, board of directors, groups, families, and individuals to sponsor the meals served at the Marian House Soup Kitchen for a specific day.  The day can be sponsored or designated in honor of an entity such as an individual, organization, business, etc., by pairing the sponsorship with a meaningful day or anniversary.

The benefits to Marian House are obvious:  generate revenue to cover meal cost, allowing for funds for occasional food shortages, and expansion of Marian House programs.

For sponsors, the program not only provides a very low cost per thousand (CPM), a desired marketing outcome in any advertising program, it also enables sponsors to be seen as a caring community supporter:  a business with a conscience.

Sponsorships are $1,500 per day. Visit the Sponsor-A-Day page to learn more or to access the complete media proposal, click here: Sponsor A Day Proposal. For more information, call us at 719-866-6440.
