The St. Anthony Prayer Society would like to focus the Lord’s graces through dedicated moments of focused prayer.
September is known as Disaster Preparedness Month and tends to be a time of great suffering for our nation and the world. It is the anniversary of the worst terrorist attacks on American soil – collectively known as 9/11. It is the beginning of Hurricane Season which can have a disastrous impact on our coastal regions, and in fact, our country was just impacted by Hurricane Harvey, the first category 3 hurricane to hit the United States in more than a decade – since Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast in 2005. And, our country is experiencing a time of unrest and discourse not seen since the 1960’s.
This month, we ask you to pray for peace for our nation, the safety of its people, and for hope to heal wounds and to find common ground.
Pope Francis recently spoke to thousands gathered in St. Peter’s Square on the Feast of the Assumption and said,
“To Mary, Queen of Peace — who we contemplate today in the glory of paradise — I entrust once again the anxieties and sorrows of the people who suffer in many parts of the world due to natural disasters, social tensions or conflicts.” He asked her for consolation and “a future of serenity and harmony.” – Pope Francis
We pray for those who have been devastated by natural and man-made disasters. Help our country heal and come together to find common ground, to make positive progress for all. Remember those who have lost their lives so suddenly and the families who are forever changed by grief and loss. Give us the strength of purpose and concern for others, that we may create a community where your will may be done.
Pray the work of Catholic Charities of Central Colorado that we may keep our hearts focused on the needs of those affected by poverty, crisis, and loss. Allow us to reach out and help them heal while providing the support that will allow them to become more stable.
