During the holidays, Catholic Charities of Central Colorado and the Marian House Soup Kitchen strive to provide as many meals as we can to those who normally cannot afford traditional Thanksgiving or Christmas dinners! We couldn’t do this without the generosity and support of Safeway and their Turkey/Santa Bucks programs along with their partnership with Hormel Foods who provides needed protein for hunger-relief organizations.
This year, Safeway donated 2,484 complete turkey meals thanks to their Turkey Bucks and Santa Bucks programs. They also worked with Hormel Foods to deliver 234 whole hams for their Hormel Hams for Hunger program. The meals included a turkey breast, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, and green bean casserole, and have and will be distributed by our outreach team as well as also served at the Marian House Soup Kitchen.
Each meal, which serves 4 – 5 people, allows a family to celebrate the holidays together without worrying about the cost of what they are eating. It also provides joy and ease to those most in need which is why Catholic Charities works hard to provide these holiday meals with the support of partners like Safeway and Hormel Foods. As a result of the turkey meal donation, 9,936 – 12,420 people were able to enjoy a turkey meal, and over 2,800 people were able to enjoy a ham meal.
Again, thank you Safeway and Hormel Foods for supporting our Colorado community and making this all happen!
