For many families, August means reveling in the last days of summer vacation, school supply shopping, and finding a new outfit for the first day of school. But, for too many families, these are days of worry, sadness, and uncertainty. Through your generous support of Catholic Charities, these families see hope and feel love.
Family Connections at our Hunt Campus is a key entry point for families experiencing homelessness and housing instability in El Paso County. Family Life Coaches and Family Navigators walk alongside families to address immediate needs, help build resilience against future life challenges, and develop case management plans built on achievable options for future self-sustainability.
Over the past year, Family Connections has served over 1,100 families, helping to provide stability to almost 2,600 children.
Our Early Childhood and Parent Education programming is designed to meet each unique family where they are in the parenting continuum. Programs include Growing Great Kids, Safe and Secure Class Series, Circle of Parents, Playgroup, and more. Parents receive support ranging from 1:1 parent partnership through weekly visits with our team, educational classes covering infant/child safety, peer-led parenting support groups, and spaces for parents and children to form bonds and social connections. Our Education Team has served over 180 families and 300 children within the past year, building the blocks for success and healthy futures.
Families come to Catholic Charities from all walks of life and in various levels of crises. Through a variety of internal services and external partnerships, such as access to our Marian House Marketplace food pantry, we walk with individuals in crisis, wrap them in supportive services, and set them up for future success through their growth and resiliency.
As we look toward the future, the need in our community is rising as the cost of living, increasing numbers of evictions, and issues related to childcare affordability and transportation also rise. It costs Catholic Charities $1,000 per family per year to ensure each household that comes to Family Connections has the resources and support necessary for future success.
