Over 90 potential job seekers attended a job fair on October 4th, hosted by Catholic Charities of Central Colorado Life Skills & Career Development Center (LSCDC) at the Marian House Soup Kitchen. The response was so overwhelming, the event will be held twice a year instead of just annually. The next job fair is scheduled for April 2018.
All employers attending the fair took applications from prospective employees. One employer said, “I am so amazed at the great people I met. I will definitely be back!” Based on initial reports, in just the first few days after the event, four people had already been hired and at least 20 others are actively interviewing.
In June 2017, just two years after the LSCDC opened, the 200th job was filled with clients seeking employment through Catholic Charities, and in July, the Colorado Springs City Council recognized that achievement with a Proclamation. As of October 9th, 234 jobs had been filled.
Staff and volunteers work with potential job seekers Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Walk-in hours are 10:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. To make an appointment, call 719-866-6290. Marian House is located at 14 West Bijou Street, near the corner of Cascade and Bijou in downtown Colorado Springs.
