Hanifen Employment Center Rennovations and Volunteer Needs

The Life Skills and Career Development Center has been revamped as the Hanifen Employment Center (HEC).  With the  move into a new, larger space, we are looking for a Volunteer Associate who will serve by providing support for general client needs and administrative duties for HEC staff. The objective of this role is to enhance the client experience at HEC and to help develop the capacity of the HEC team to serve more job seekers. A person in this role will work directly with job seekers who are unemployed, underemployed and come from a diverse cultural and socio-economic background.

Essential Duties
  • Provide one-on-one support to job-seekers in the Hanifen Employment Center
  • Assist job seekers with basic computer operating questions (e.g. saving documents, printing, word processing, e-mail, using the internet)
  • Refer job seekers to appropriate resources, direct job seekers to job search related websites
  • Assist staff in ensuring job seekers demonstrate appropriate behavior and correct use of equipment at all times
  • Assist with online applications and/or completion of a resume
  • Provide encouragement and understanding
  • Complete required tracking of volunteer hours, tasks completed, etc., as appropriate for position
  • Participate in volunteer trainings and evaluations to improve mutual satisfaction and the volunteer program itself
  • Understand and adhere to all programmatic and agency policies
Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years old and possess a High School Diploma or GED
  • The ability and willingness to learn about job search tools and websites
  • Be comfortable working one-on-one with job seekers and providing guidance and teaching
  • Proficient with standard office equipment such as computer, fax machine, copier, scanner, etc.
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office software: Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
  • Excellent people skills and patience
  • Commitment to provide excellent service to the clients
  • A high degree of professionalism and a friendly, positive attitude
  • Comfortable in a fast paced environment
OTHER
  • Position-specific orientation and ongoing training/support will be provided by HEC staff and is mandatory before starting volunteer service.
