January: Life, Poverty and Welcoming the Stranger

The St. Anthony Prayer Society would like to focus the Lord’s graces through dedicated moments of focused prayer.

December is focused on Life, Poverty and Welcoming the Stranger.

The Joy of Life

One of the great joys of life is celebrating the birth of a child, time spent with family and friends, and the celebration of special milestones such as birthdays and anniversaries.  We celebrate life from birth to natural death and all those special times in-between.

Poverty Awareness Month

January is poverty awareness month.  Poverty is insidious in its negative effects on the lives of the people we serve.  Most of the services at Catholic Charities focus on helping families and individuals move from crisis to stability, out of poverty to a level of self-sufficiency.

National Migration Week

The plight of the immigrant around the world today is terrible.  Families are being driven from their homes and home countries by war, famine, gangs and all sorts of brutality.  They are seeking what everyone wants:  a chance to make a better life for themselves and their families.

January is a time to pray for the dignity of the person.  Recently, Andy Barton, CEO of Catholic Charities, wrote a column in the Colorado Catholic Herald about life:  not just about the groups who advocate for the unborn, but what we should be advocating for – life from birth to death and the challenges in-between.  Click here to read The Unborn and the Undocumented

Let Us Pray Together:

Heavenly Father,

You are the source of all life and goodness, you fashion human lives in your image and likeness, and through your love, give each human life dignity, sacredness, and priceless worth.  Awaken in every heart new reverence for the least of your children and renew among your people a readiness to nurture and sustain your precious gift of human life at all stages and in all conditions.

We pray that families and individuals who are suffering from poverty, the strangers among us who are facing uncertainty, and those struggling with life decisions are guided and sheltered by your love, mercy, and wisdom.

In this New Year, grant joy, peace, and courage to our St. Anthony of Padua Prayer Society.  Help Catholic Charities of Central Colorado to defend the rights and life of each person by sharing the love you showed us by dying on the cross.
