BY MICHAEL BRANSCUM, DIRECTOR OF INCOME AND RELIEF SERVICES
Client Services is changing how we deliver mail on a daily basis. Historically, we opened the mail room between 10:30-1:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. We have made a culture shift in how we deliver services, in that we want to focus on client engagement with a case manager or advocate to link clients to services in the community.
Mail will now be distributed between 1:00-1:45 p.m. Monday thru Friday. This will allow us to ensure clients are engaged through our Homeless Management Informative System database. Clients that are not currently meeting with a case manager or advocate will be encouraged to do so for future use of mail delivery. We will employ mobile mail carts that we can bring from upstairs, where the mail will be sorted, to the downstairs area on a daily basis.
Change is not always easy and I know there have been multiple large changes happening. With the continued growth of Catholic Charities of Central Colorado, we needed to create more office space for staff, which has resulted in the change in the mail room.
As with the clothing closet, our clients adjust and evolve. While the mail will not be as convenient to access, we understand that convenience is often the greatest enemy of growth and moving forward. We will be able to stress accountability and help clients establish goals and see them through to completion.
With these changes some of our greatly appreciated mail room volunteers now have schedule conflicts or have decided to move on to new adventures. Mail volunteers are needed for Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The shift is 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and duties include sorting and filing the mail as well as client interface handing out the mail.
