May: Mary, Mother of God

The St. Anthony Prayer Society would like to focus the Lord’s graces through dedicated moments of focused prayer.

Mary and Jesus

May is the month dedicated as Marian month during Easter season. We remember Mary, Mother of God this month, and her example of servanthood and obedience. Mary was called by the Archangel Gabriel to be a vessel for Christ himself and for God’s love for the world. May we, too, be a vessel for God’s love and faithfully obey the call to serve the vulnerable person God puts before us.

Catholic Charities’ Marian House is justly named for The Blessed Mother of God. She accompanied the mission and suffering of Christ always. The Marian House Soup Kitchen is indeed a place where the most vulnerable among us are received and nurtured. We serve those in whose person is the person of Christ, himself, confident that such a purpose is pleasing to God.

This month we also recognize mothers everywhere. The guiding and strengthening role of motherhood for all families across the world is the most valuable gift on Earth. May we remember how critical supporting mothers is in our own lives, in our neighborhoods, and in our communities. May we lift up the work of Catholic Charities working with families in so many ways throughout its many programs.

Mary answered, “I am the Lord’s servant. Let everything you’ve said happen to me.”
Luke 1:38
“God wills that all his gifts should come to us through Mary”
St. Bernard

Let Us Pray Together:

May Prayer:

Together We Pray,
Lord God, through the merciful intercession of Mary, we ask that You bless each and every person to have a heart filled with love and compassion. May You enflame our hearts with great desire to receive and serve our most vulnerable brothers and sisters as Mary did for your only son Jesus Christ.

Most particularly, we pray for our sisters and brothers suffering from poverty, homelessness, sickness, and discrimination. May they feel the love and care of God through the hands of their brothers and sisters. Help us to become instruments in spreading love, care and generosity to those in need. For our mothers, we ask for your protection and strength. We offer thanksgiving for every mother here on Earth and for our eternal guide, Mary the Mother of God.

Thank you Lord for the blessings through the generous hearts of our partners, volunteers and employees at Catholic Charities. May we continue to have that passion to help and care for those in need.

As a reminder, we send our monthly prayer intentions at the beginning of each month.  You can also go directly to the Pray for Us page on our website for more information.
