Girls on the Run Donate 500 Books

On December 14, 2016, Girls on the Run donated nearly 500 books as a result of their book drive at Jordahl Elementary School. The 11 girls, in grades 3 – 5, are members of the local chapter of Girls on the Run, a national nonprofit that seeks to inspire girls through experience-based curriculum and creatively integrated running.  Throughout the year, the girls meet twice a week with their advisors, Ellen Crow and Stephanie Callaway. In addition to training for and running a 5k together, the girls engage in a curriculum that includes community involvement. This year, the girls organized a week-long book drive at their school for Catholic Charities. The new and used books will be incorporated into Catholic Charities’ Early Childhood Development program, which facilitates the distribution of age-appropriate books to children that utilize Catholic Charities’ services.  Books are supplemented with bookmarks that include information on Early Childhood Development for parents.
