Volunteer | Make a Difference

With limited staff, volunteers are critical in helping operate many of our programs. Volunteers annually contribute over 54,000 volunteer hours – the equivalent of 26 full-time staff – valued at over $1.7  million.

Many Reasons to Volunteer

“What is the essence of life? To serve others and to do good.”

What Our Volunteers Say:

“I have been volunteering at Marian House over 30 years, because it is the right thing to do, you are feeding people and being available with what they need. I brought my students down here with me for 20 years once a month and it’s just a wonderful place to be.”
Tammie R
“Because I retired a few years ago, I donated my time before that, but I really feel good when I volunteer and help others out.”
Michael M
“I absolutely adore coming here because I feel like I can help somebody, I feel useless when I don’t help somebody and here on Fridays it feels like family and that makes everything so much better. Everyone is so supportive and so sweet, we all do our best to help each other help others and I absolutely like that.”
Kairi M
“After ending my 33-year teaching career, I needed a way to spend my free time. Little did I know that signing up to volunteer at the Marian House would be more meaningful than I could have imagined. I immediately found that by providing nourishment to those in need I was joyfully giving back to support the community that had supported me for so many years. The joyful dedication of staff and volunteers is ever present, and I thank God for leading me here every week.”
Jan L
“I volunteer because it is something God has placed on my heart. I have been blessed in so many ways. Many people are hurting and in need, and if a simple gesture of serving food, stocking shelves, cleaning dishes can bless them, put a smile on their face and tell them they are loved and not alone, then I want to do my part. Volunteering through serving others blesses both the giver and the receiver.”
Karen L
“I’ve been fortunate in my life so I enjoy giving back to the community.”
Unha F
“It gives me great joy to see so many folks enjoy a sumptuous and nourishing meal. So grateful to Marian House for such a marvelous cause.”
Joe V
“Giving back to the community that has given so much to me for the last 28 years.”
Bill L
“If we want people to know Jesus, we have to show them Jesus. People will not care what you know until they know that you care.”
Cindy S
“The services offered at the Marian House are such a gift to the community and I am so proud to be a part of it. I hope in some small way I am making a difference! “
Bill J
“I get great satisfaction in knowing that I can help someone in need.. A lot of them are disabled veterans and I feel that I am returning some of their service to them.”
Jo Ann W
“I volunteer because I want to have change in the community, And I enjoy meeting the people that come through.”
Stephanie S

“In a nutshell, I volunteer for MH because it is the right thing to do and I have always felt that there is no reason for anyone to be hungry in Colorado Springs. Additionally I find working at MH that I consider our guests exactly that – guests and not problems needing a solution. Volunteering is good for the soul – guests and workers alike. Thanks for the opportunity to make a difference.”
