Key Info

The vision of Catholic Charities of Central Colorado is to transform lives through relationships that build individual resiliency and thriving communities. Your legacy allows thousands more to build resiliency, strengthen community, and find hope. Your generosity is our future.

Types of Bequest Gifts

Planning your philanthropy is a good step to take, no matter who you are giving to or in what amount. Life can change in a moment- make sure you, your loved ones, and your favorite charities are remembered.

There are four main types of bequest gifts: unrestricted, restricted, residual, and contingent, each with its own unique way of remembering your favorite charitable missions after your passing. Bequests are generally revocable gifts, meaning they can be changed or modified at any time.

Unrestricted gifts ensure the work of the entire mission continues thanks to you.  You can designate either a specific dollar amount or a specific percentage of your total estate.

Do you have a cherished program at Catholic Charities of Central Colorado that you would like to support specifically?  You can choose to leave a gift for a favorite program to strengthen its future.

Residual gifts to Catholic Charities are made after other obligations are completed.

Contingent gifts to Catholic Charities take effect when a primary beneficiary is no longer living.

Planned Giving FAQs:

• Do you have sample language I can use in my will or give to my estate planner?
Yes! You can download a pdf here [hyperlink to same pdf]. For a copy sent directly to you, please reach out to the Advancement Team at Advancement@CCharitiesCC.org or (719) 866-6539.

• Do I need to be specific about which Catholic Charities?
Being as specific as possible ensures your legacy gift impacts the work you know and love. Please use our full name Catholic Charities of Central Colorado, using 228 North Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO, 80903 as our address and 84-0586169 as our EIN.

• Can I name a specific program that I love as the beneficiary of my gift?
Yes, though we highly encourage unrestricted gifts. Unrestricted gifts give us the flexibility to address the most urgent needs facing our community in the future. However, if you have a specific passion (like a particular program or our endowment fund), please contact our development team so we can ensure your intent can be fully honored.

You may also choose to permanently restrict your gift by contributing to the Endowment for Case Management to create ongoing impact.

• Does Catholic Charities only accept estate gifts of cash?
No—Catholic Charities of Central Colorado accepts many types of gifts, ranging from traditional cash to stock, Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs), life insurance policies, and real property. For accounts held by another party, such as IRAs and insurance policies, this process often takes less than five minutes and requires filling out a simple form provided by your financial custodian.

• Can I change my mind in the future?
Absolutely. Most legacy gifts—including bequests and beneficiary designations—are completely revocable. If your family’s financial needs or personal circumstances change, you can update your estate plans or beneficiary forms at any time with your attorney or estate planner.

• Can I meet with someone at Catholic Charities to talk through a potential gift?
You are always welcome at Catholic Charities. To set a private appointment, please contact us at (719) 866-6539 or Advancement@CCharitiesCC.org.

• Do I need to tell you that I’ve included you in my estate plans?
You aren’t required to, but we highly encourage it! Documenting your gift allows us to thank you, invite you to special events, and ensure we fully understand your wishes. It also helps us plan strategically for the future. Any information you share will remain strictly confidential.
