BY ROCHELLE SCHLORTT

As we highlighted in last month’s Catholic Charities electronic newsletter, the city of Colorado Springs announced the 2018-19 Homelessness Response Action Plan, outlining eight points addressing the growing homeless population in Colorado Springs.  However, the initial plan ignored a very important but invisible population:  families.

Over the past month, Catholic Charities and Partners in Housing, Family Promise, The Salvation Army, and Colorado Health Partners developed a white paper that included a recommended ninth point focused on family homelessness.

We are pleased to report the city has adopted the proposal and has added a ninth point which adds emergency shelter and transitional housing units for families experiencing homelessness.

Thank you to everyone who attended a town hall and spoke on behalf of struggling families in our community.

Get all the details about the 9th point of this plan here.
