The St. Anthony Prayer Society would like to focus the Lord’s graces through dedicated moments of focused prayer.
June is designated as the Hunger Awareness Month. In the United States, there are 41 million people who struggle with hunger including 14 million children suffering from hunger and food insecurity. As Christians we are called to help feed those who are hungry for food and compassion. During this month we also give special attention to those suffering mental illness.
This month, we celebrate and venerate the Sacred Heart of Jesus as the symbol of infinite love. In this time, many are faced with different challenges and afflictions, let us embrace the message of Jesus’s sacred and pure heart – love one another unconditionally as the Father loved us without boundaries. Let us join in prayers that people will find in their hearts the willingness to recognize our sisters and brothers in need and join the fight to end hunger and discrimination. Through our prayers, may we awaken their hearts to put into action the desire to lift the lives of the less fortunate and attain equality on food security.
“You will find out that Charity is a heavy burden to carry, heavier than the kettle of soup and the full basket. But you will keep your gentleness and your smile. It is not enough to give soup and bread. This the rich can do. You are the servant of the poor, always smiling and good-humored. They are your masters, terribly sensitive and exacting master you will see. And the uglier and the dirtier they will be, the more unjust and insulting, the more love you must give them. It is only for your love alone that the poor will forgive you the bread you give to them.”
– St. Vincent de Paul
Let Us Pray Together:
Almighty God,We pray and humbly request that you bestow Your blessings and compassion for our brothers and sisters who are hungry not only of food but also of love and compassion. Bless them O’ Lord that they may find fullness through Your infinite love and grace. May Your infinite love enlighten those who are suffering from mental illness. Jesus, we ask through Your most sacred heart that people may find in their own hearts the love to help those who are hungry and be more compassionate in helping those in need. We fervently pray that we become a unified force towards fighting poverty, hunger and isolation.
Lord, please continue to bless Catholic Charities that we may continue to serve those in need. Guide us to be able to feed every hungry person who comes to our doors and deliver nourishment to those who are unable to come to us. We pray that you provide us more ways to serve those in need and become an instrument in helping them rebuild their lives. We also pray for our donors and partner agencies and organizations that pave the way for us to attain our mission. In Jesus name, Amen.
