BY LORRI ORWIG
If God does indeed love a cheerful giver, then he must adore the volunteers of Catholic Charities of Central Colorado. My first few weeks on staff have been filled with introductions to the hundreds of happy people who so generously give their time in support of our mission. As I have wandered through the campus, I have heard the laughter and sensed the deep bonds that unite us. I am humbled by your generosity and loyalty, having met volunteers who have been with us for 10, 15, 20 years, or more.
I grew up in a military family, traveling around the country and Europe courtesy of the United States Air Force. I married into the Air Force as well, so my travels continued until we arrived in Colorado Springs, where we have lived since 1995. My husband and I have two daughters who graduated from Liberty High School and the University of Northern Colorado. They are both teachers and live in Denver.
My work has been in the nonprofit and public health arena, most recently for Silver Key Senior Services, where I started as the director of Volunteer Resources and finished as the Chief Development Officer. Working in the nonprofit sector, I was always aware of and impressed by the work of Catholic Charities of Central Colorado. I am thrilled to now be on staff working alongside some truly wonderful folks.
People volunteer for a variety of reasons: a passion for a mission, a need to give back, or a desire to belong to a group. Whatever your reason, I thank you for the gift of your time. I look forward to getting to know you and working together to provide help and create hope for the individuals and families we serve. Our work cannot be done without you.
